The Supreme Court Thursday restored law practicing licence of former Attorney General for Pakistan Irfan Qadir and also disposed of contempt cases against him. A three-member bench headed by Chief Justice Asif Saeed Khosa heard a case pertaining to suspension of law practicing licence of former Attorney General Irfan Qadir.

Restoring the licence, the Chief Justice said: "Henceforth we hope that there will be cordial relationship between the bench and bar." During the hearing, Justice Khosa asked Irfan Qadir as to whether the petitioner who had filed contempt case against him was present in the courtroom.

Irfan Qadir replied that Naqvi, the petitioner, was not present in the courtroom. The Chief Justice observed that there was no instance of contempt of court, adding that neither did the petitioner appear before the court nor had he filed an application for adjournment; hence the contempt court is disposed of.

Former CJP Jawad S Khawaja had suspended the licence of Irfan Qadir in the case of APCs purchase from a Serbian company by Sindh police.

The court had observed how Irfan Qadir was representing the IGP Sindh while the Sindh government is already being represented by Farooq H Naek. The court had also noticed that no power of attorney authorising Irfan Qadir to appear in this case was filed. The court had therefore shown concern how and on what basis Irfan Qadir had been appearing in this case for the last 11 hearings.

Justice Khawaja had issued contempt of court notices to Irfan Qadir in Arsalan Iftikhar case for concealing the fact that he had represented Malik Riaz as his counsel in the high courts. The second contempt notice was issued on why he had named ex-CJP Chaudhry Iftikhar in the contempt case against Malik Riaz.
